CO-ED BIBLE STUDIES

Huntsville Campus

ISAIAH

LED BY TOM THOMPSON

Huntsville Campus, starting August 14

Wednesdays, 6:00-7:30 PM
Cost: $5 optional notebooks

Isaiah the Prophet ministered to the nation of Judah during a time of great economic prosperity but moral and spiritual depravity.  The majority of the people had rejected God and were worshiping idols and pursuing financial gain.  Isaiah delivered an unpopular message of judgment to a stubborn and prideful people who refused to humble themselves and seek God’s forgiveness.  However, Isaiah also prophesied about the ultimate spiritual restoration of the Jewish people when the Messiah returns to earth to rule from Jerusalem.  Join us as we study Isaiah’s life and times, his warnings of judgment to a nation not unlike ours of today, and his message of salvation and eternal peace for God’s people.  The class will be conducted in a hybrid format (students will have a choice of participating online or in person).  PowerPoint slides will be provided in electronic and printed format.

REVELATION: ETERNAL KING, EVERLASTING KINGDOM

LED BY BETSY OSBORN, KAREN SHERWOOD, & AMANDA OWENS

Huntsville Campus, August 14 -October 23

Wednesdays, 6-7:30 PM
Cost: $25  for book and video access

Perhaps no other book of the Bible feels as inaccessible and intimidating to us as the very last one. The book of Revelation overflows with images and ideas that confound our modern ears. But if all Scripture is God-breathed and profitable, we should assume Revelation is as accessible and helpful as any other book in the Bible. Why don’t we see it that way? John’s Revelation was circulated and read aloud two thousand years ago among seven churches in Asia Minor. Those who heard the letter understood it and drew encouragement from its message. The same can be true for you today.

THERE IS MORE TO YOUR STORY: A STUDY OF RUTH

WRITTEN AND TAUGHT BY BOBI ANN ALLEN

Huntsville Campus, August 22 – September 26

Thursdays, 9-11:30 AM
Cost: $10. Childcare available by reservation

Have you ever found yourself in the midst of loss, loneliness, or a season of great change or hurt? Did your mind wonder if this was it…if this was how your story would end? The story of Ruth is for you. It is a story offering hope when all hope seems lost. The book of Ruth begins as a story of heartache, but it doesn’t stop there. Mourning gives way to dancing as themes of loyalty, kindness, risk-taking, acceptance, and breath-taking love and redemption burst forth. The story of Ruth isn’t a fairy tale of redemption for one woman thousands of years ago. Ruth is a story of God’s providence to redeem us all—even you. God’s divine intervention is woven through this masterfully told story as we see His hand at work through seemingly small events. This six-week study will challenge and encourage you as God speaks to your heart and reminds you that no matter where you find yourself, God isn’t done with you and there is more to your story.

UNTANGLE YOUR EMOTIONS

 LED BY BETHANY DONHAM

Huntsville Campus, August 22 – September 26

Thursdays, 9-11:30 AM
Cost: $15. Childcare available by reservation

How often have you heard, “Don’t let your emotions get the best of you”? But what if instead of ignoring our feelings, we noticed them, named them, and let God use them to draw us closer to Himself and others?
Many of us need to unlearn damaging messages about our emotions. We’ve been taught, for example, that emotions are untrustworthy, when, in fact, God can use them to help us see where we need His healing.
Feelings aren’t something to fix; they are something to feel. As we discover how to name and navigate our emotions, we’ll learn how they can draw us closer to the God who built us—soul, mind, and heart.

How do Christians grow? Few question the call of the Bible to grow in godliness, but the answer to exactly how this happens is often elusive. In this book, Dane Ortlund points believers to Christ, making the case that sanctification does not happen by doing more or becoming better, but by going deeper into the wondrous gospel truths that washed over them when they were first united to him.

LUKE: GUT-LEVEL COMPASSION

LED BY WHITNEY DEAN

Madison Campus, August 21 – October 16

Wednesdays, 6:30 – 8 PM
Cost: $25

Many of us believe that we aren’t good enough to meet other people’s expectations. Maybe you can’t wrap words around why, but lurking beneath the surface of the carefully curated façade you present in public, it’s there. Being missed and marginalized by others moves us to assume we’re not quite good enough for God either. The great news woven throughout the Gospel according to Luke is that perfection is not a prerequisite for a deep and personal relationship with Jesus. In fact, this riveting account reveals that Jesus is especially fond of ragamuffins in need of a safe place to lean in and linger!
