This morning we are starting our summer sermon series Dangerous Prayers. We start with the idea that we need to be willing to pray dangerous or unsafe prayers, not just the safe prayers such as protect us, bless our food, keep us safe, etc. As followers of Jesus, we need to be willing to be uncomfortable, as there is nothing about the gospel that is for our comfort. In fact, when I study the lives of the apostles, they lived anything but safe lives. They lived with a boldness that could only come from the infilling of the Holy Spirit.
I find myself wondering why we do not live with this type of boldness today in the North American church. We do not share the gospel boldly like we see from the example of the apostles. I wonder what it will take for us to live with that kind of boldness.
This is why I believe God is leading us as a church to this series of messages over the summer. I believe God is challenging us to go deeper in our prayer lives and deeper in our relationships with him. I believe that God is asking us to do things that are going to be uncomfortable and build relationships with all kinds of people, taking seriously the mission he has given us.
I am looking forward to what God has to say to us over the coming weeks and am excited to see what he will do in and through us to further his kingdom.
