As Summer finally approaches in Wisconsin, I’ve been thinking
again about how seasons change. The last few weeks have been
planting season for farmers. This is a good reminder to us that
we also sow seed with the choices we make in our personal lives.
Let me give you an example. I’m taking online ministry courses,
so in the evenings I can either study or ignore the books and
watch tv. Study reaps knowledge. Procrastination, though it
seems easier at the time, reaps stress. I recently joined a gym.
Sowing exercise, though difficult, reaps improved health. Sowing
a lazy lifestyle can reap the opposite – high blood pressure, high
weight, etc.
The same principle applies to our relationships. We can sow the
time and effort to read our Bible, to be kind, to communicate with
our spouse and family…or not. It’s our choice. We can reap a
return of kindness, friendship and love or one of loneliness, anger
and grouchiness. If you are already lonely, start by sowing time
with God because that will reap change in your life and attitude.
Proverbs 11:18 says, “A wicked person earns deceptive wages,
but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.”
The chorus of Rend Collective’s new song says “I am counting
every blessing, counting every blessing. Letting go and trusting
when I cannot see. I am counting every blessing, counting every
blessing. Surely every season you are good to me.” What will
you sow this summer season?!
Counting with you,
Pastor Cindy
