When my heart is weary, when my soul is weak
When it seems I can’t traverse the trail before me
I survey the glory of your agony
And I find the will to fight for what’s before me
‘Cause you ran the race, enduring for your glory

I fix my eyes on you, the founder and the finisher of our faith
I fix my eyes on you, the solace in your suffering is my strength

As I fight to follow, you’re my righteous guide
And you train me to delight in all that’s holy
Heal my broken body, cure my crooked stride
Throw off every weight and sin that clings so closely
I will run the race, enduring for your glory

You help me breathe, you’re the only life I need
You died for me, you’re the only life I need

How do you deal with hard times? Most of us keep beating your head against the wall trying to fix things, make it better, and the more we try the more things only seem to get worse. It doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor, married or single, male or female, or young or old we all go through times of hardship in our personal lives.

Our issues can be internal, like wrestling with our identity, battling back depression, and/or a desire to correct lifelong habits that we keep falling into. The problems we have ae also outside of ourselves in relationship with others. We all say we hate stupid people, but the more I think about that the more I realize we must all be stupid then.

Recently, I found myself in a tough situation where I upset my wife (every married man in existence can relate). For a man, there is nothing more painful than when the woman you love most is hurt and is not at a place where she is able to demonstrate her love back to you. Because it’s unbearable to be in this state, we need to fix it right now! We quickly start working on that special project, maybe buy flowers, or try to reason with her (by far the worst idea!!!!)… and then she will only get more upset!

My wife said something that was really profound to me the other night in the midst of talking. I told her I didn’t know how to fix the situation or make it better anymore. She just looked at me and said, “that’s the problem, you need to let go of trying to fix it on your own. You need to let go and give it over to God.” That really struck a chord with me because she is right! I was praying constantly asking God to fix it, or tell me how to fix things but then I would go do what I wanted, or what I thought was best. We have all screwed up a lot in our lives, so clearly we do not know what is best!

I really connect with music, and the lyrics above are from a Hymn that I knew, and happened to come across when I opened my youtube account right when I needed it. Funny how God works sometimes! When I hear this song, I immediately stop to pray. It’s a beautiful reminder of why we should trust God, even in the midst of dark circumstances. I am encouraged in my spirit by the Holy Spirit, and I’m recharged and ready to keep pressing ahead! I hope this song encourages you as much as it has encouraged me.

Catch ya later,
